When a child is lost...



I saw this on a stroll through a cemetery. The loss of a child has to be the hardest thing for a parent to live through.

There's a cemetery near here that has a child's grave which is really striking. Many of the graves in this cemetery are very old, including the one I'm referring to. The tombstone is more of a sculpture, a tree stump with a child's shoes resting at the foot of it. The local legend is that the girl drown while playing in the river and when her parents were looking for her all they originally found was her pair of shoes sitting at the base of a tree-stump along the river. I have no idea if it's true or not, but that grave always makes me pause and think about ... stuff.
