Ricketts Glen... post 1 of 5...

Ricketts Glen is a state park in PA that was well worth the trip and the hike. I'll definitely be going back. In the meantime (and over the next few days) I'll let my photos speak for me.

We decided to take the easier path because we started late in the day.


The Wagg came along for the hike.


I wouldn't recommend bringing a dog that spooks easily or pulls...


One of the easier descents.

California... Day 4... Part 1 of 3...

I told you I have a lot of shots...
And I told you she was showing dogs... every day... dogs...

I just couldn't get over this wonderful eye.


Ok, so we were on the road by noon and heading toward Joshua Tree National Park. Maybe someone can shed some light as to why there is a Mammoth on the side of a mountain. I'm assuming that fossils are found in them thar' hills...


Everyday, up until now, consisted of clouds.


I wish they would set these up in the Long Island Sound already. I found them quite relaxing.


The park is beautiful and caters to rock climbers.


There are trails to wander on and many sights to see. Unfortunately my wife feared having to drag ourselves out if the desert with rattlesnake bites... so we didn't wander to far. (The day after this trek a woman at the dog show with a dalmatian was telling me that her dog was bit by a rattler... while we were out on our hike. He was given antivenin and was ok. It was actually the second time the dog had been bit in two years!)


Waggy leaves one behind for Hollywood. Take that!


Even in this arid land the ground is teaming with life. I wish we could have stayed till dark to see some REAL wildlife.


I was told that these Joshua trees only grow in this area of the world at around 2,000-6,000 feet above sea level. They thrive in the area that is the park.

MCF (left), Pollaris13 (right) and I (middle) walk into a bar... wait, wrong story... we walk into a park and follow a path through some woods. A clearing emerges and a field of what were once pretty wildflowers is now before us as dried stalks a plenty.

There are two paths... do you go left or right... wait a minute! This isn't choose your own adventure.

We pass a group of young teenagers and one chunky kid tells his friends "I'll be right back. I just want to see what's around this bend." We laughed about this thinking we just entered a bad Long Island horror flick.

Through the thicket of "once were flowers" brought us to a clearing with a circle of rocks surrounded by a circle of trees. Pollaris13 decides that this area needs a pentagram and sends me to collect sticks. I hear an evil laugh escape his lips as he explains it is not an evil symbol but pagan in nature.

MCF steps back, fearing that a portal is about to open that will spew forth demons and brimstone. I snap a picture of us looking at our handiwork and chuckle as we discuss what fun it would be if it appeared on the evenings local news: "SATANIC RITUALISTIC ALTER FOUND AT AREA PARK!"

Hey, we didn't leave a body there... wait... isn't that that chunky kid we saw a while back on the trail?

I go back to look at my photo and realize that the sun hit that center stick in such a way that it created a satanic... I mean pagan... arrow pointing right at Pollaris13. Maybe MCF should have been a little more diligent when he tried to warn me.

I feel like a freakin' goonie stuck in Stand By Me. I wonder who came across that scene after we left... ;)

Two things today...

Yesterday I mentioned inspiration. I was inspired by a video that I had seen MCF attempt after watching a video that the Greek had created. But the two videos we had watched just weren’t FAST ENOUGH for me. I have a lead foot.

Now, without incriminating myself, I sped this film up by about 250% from its original speed; making a 20 minute drive take about 5 minutes. I’m estimating that some stretches convert to over 200mph. I hope you enjoy it... And maybe this can shed some light on a previous perilous answer. So turn the volume up and enjoy...especially the end.
