Robin's nest...
Not six feet from the ground
A bunch of eyes looked down on me
While I milled around

The papa bird had spotted me
and looked on from afar
His beak packed with a tasty meal
Not taken from a jar

The babies chirped for sustenance
A morsel from their father
So, slowly I just backed away
And no more was a bother

Rocky has been rescued...
This baby had fallen from its nest at a fellow employee's home. After surviving the night we researched a squirrel sanctuary that took in the baby in.

He was quite lively and, from the looks of it, only a few days old.

I noticed something in its mouth that looked like sawdust and the baby kept bringing its paws up to its mouth to try and clear it out. The woman at the sanctuary confirmed that they were baby maggots and would clean the mouth out right away.

The tail of the mother can be seen from the ground but we are not certain if she is alive. My friend will check tonight and if the mother is deceased they will need to save any remaining babies from the nest.
UPDATE: Mama is alive and is probably taking care of the other young-uns. She may have pushed the baby we saved out for a reason... or was just to exhausted to know or care. If I get updates I'll keep you informed.

Mantis baby... Camera Critters...
These summer nights bring all sorts of wildlife to my front door... there has been a cacophony of different insects visiting.

When I first approached, I thought it was a freaky looking male mosquito.

Upon closer inspection I saw the pincers and noticed a molted shell nearby.

Here is a desktop sized head to look at what you are doing on your computer.

What comes to mind?
What comes to your mind when you see this?

I keep hearing a Marilyn Manson rendition of Take me out to ball game in the vein of Sweet Dreams.
Go for it Marilyn... you need a new hit.
