The monster awakes...

Clean cut. I should have asked for this piece. Lacquered slices of this would have made beautiful coasters.

TIM-BERRRRRR...
After a week of dreary weather, the sun shined and the day warmed up.
Branch by branch the tree thinned.
First, a chip was removed to give the branch a direction to fall. And then, a cut along the back sent it on its way.
Thicker chunks were guided with help from below.
And soon, one of the twins took it's final bow.

Dragonfly...
Prehistoric dragonflies had a wingspan of 30 some-odd inches. These insects amaze me and some interesting facts can be found here.
Some interesting facts taken from wikipedia:
Dragonflies are the world's fastest insects and, although estimates of their speed vary wildly, most credible authorities say they are capable of reaching speeds of between 19 to 38 mph. A study showed that dragonflies can travel as much as 85 mi. in one day.
Dragonflies have excellent eyesight due to their eye structure. Their compound eyes have up to 30,000 facets, each of which is a separate light-sensing organ or ommatidium, arranged to give nearly a 360° field of vision.
It was recently discovered that dragonflies employ a particular optical illusion, termed motion camouflage, to stalk other insects that invade their territory. The research suggests that a dragonfly can move in such a way as to project itself as a stationary object while speedily attacking its victims. These findings illustrate for the first time how dragonflies use complex camouflaging techniques during aerial combat. (Wonder how quickly the military jumped on this.)
