Polar Bears... Stragglers...

I have to admit... He was actually the first one in. Brave little kid!

All joking aside. These are the lingerers. They hung out in the water and splashed around for a while and then it got too cold for me (and I was in a coat and hat)!


I wonder if I made the local news?

Just kidding to all. What these people did was for a great cause and quite a bit of cash was raised for the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County, Inc. Tomorrow you'll see the remaining shots from the event and a few loony stragglers that must take cold showers all year to prepare for the plunge.

And the anticipation for a frigid dip was almost too much to handle! (Let us in already!)

Santa is always ready for a good cause and a good cooling.


The crowd began to gather just before 1:30 in the afternoon.


And there they stood, awaiting the official release into the icy sound.

On hand and ready for rescue...

We are still on our way to a Polar Bear Plunge...


But first we need to get our rescue squad in order and ready.


In the chance of a heart attack or drowning there are rescue teams on hand...


...in the water...


...and ready to act at a moments notice.

I attended another meetup this past weekend and witnessed the Polar Bear Club leap into the Long Island Sound just before we got hit by a huge snowstorm. It was for a good cause though. I'll be sharing some pictures over the next few days.
