I see these often during the summers on Long Island.


But are they flying ants? Or flies that LOOK like ants?

Trees have such vast ecosystems. Look at one closely and see all that they have to offer.

...or a baby roach in the wild? Really not sure what this is. Looks too "squat" to be a roach... and the fact that it was out in broad daylight doesn't go with the whole skittering in the sewers and staying in the dark. Unless it was rabid! :O Can insects be rabid? Does he have a little foamy mouth? Are you tired of my rambling?

Lately I've been obsessed...

I've been thinking of getting a kittehhhh... Something that will stay small. Something that needs a home. Something the dogs won't tear apart like a mewing, purring chew toy. It's still just a thought.

Alone... and far from home...

While in Connecticut, I spied a flash of green and blue fly by and I knew it wasn't an ordinary bird that just caught my eye.


Although inquisitive, it wouldn't let me get close enough to... eh-hem... help him onto my finger.


And even though this picture was blurry, there is something about it that I just adore.

Red-winged blackbird...

Black as starless night
Flight so fast an orange flash
Beauty in the sky

S-N-A-R-R-R-R-R-L...

Ella was getting groomed and her brother wanted to play. She wasn't having any of that! She doesn't actually "snarl"...
but she does raise a lip.

Robin's nest...

I spied a robin's nest above
Not six feet from the ground
A bunch of eyes looked down on me
While I milled around


The papa bird had spotted me
and looked on from afar
His beak packed with a tasty meal
Not taken from a jar


The babies chirped for sustenance
A morsel from their father
So, slowly I just backed away
And no more was a bother

Fly-bee-thing...

It hovered in place.


It darted about.


It buzzed LOUDLY!


Then a female appeared with what looked like honey on her back...


And he must have liked it... because he mated in an instant.
