Long Island has a few mental institutions that were constructed around the early 1900s. Stories abound regarding cruelty and inhumane testing on the mentally ill. Other tales are of the hauntings. Hallways that are visited from beyond, doors slamming and water turning on in the night.
Only once have I visited at night; and I've never gone into the buildings. I need to contact the proper channels and see if I can get a private tour. Until then... is that a child crouching in the corner?

Security Guard: "You guys CAN'T be going in to these buildings!"
Me: "We're not going in, just shooting the outside."
SG: "I just SAW your friend walk out of one!"
Me: "No, he wasn't in there..."
Looks like I owe that cop a Coke. ;-)
My word verification is "unilies"; guess I won't be trusting Uni...
Those were taken from outside. I told the nice man that I was on the front step and I didn't fib. :P
Cah-REEEPY. No way would I go in there at night.
Is that Pilgrim State?
answering that might anger the spirits ;)
Very spooky looking... Stephen King-ish!
I would just LOVE to walk around in there!

I'd be in my element! I have a degree in psychology and am currently training to be a psychologist teacher :o) Gotta get meself there. Do they still have any equipment or anything like that? An ECT room - that'd be very house on haunted hill. Maybe that film and others like it are partly responsible for why people find these sorts of places creepy.
Perhaps those thoughts come from the mystique aroused by doctors making the world believe these people were almost possessed and they were in fact heroes by risking their lives on a daily basis to hide them away from mainstream society...
But maybe we find them creepy just because they are and no amount of psychology can explain it! either way good job if you read this far, and nice pictures! captures "the creep" quite nicely!
I love the texture of the peeling paint and the light you caught.
I'd have to be holding somebody's hand. :)
The images themselves are haunting - nice.
