WIIF #95

Tatman's beacon showed him the way last week.

Here is What Is It Friday? #95

Tatman's friend John gets a bullseye this week!
I have to ramp up the difficulty for next time ;)

The fine print: On Fridays I will post an image in hopes that visitors will leave a guess in the comment section. The following Friday (or when someone guesses correctly) I will post a wide shot of the item. Each Friday a NEW image, along with a link to the previous weeks post, will be posted.

Fungus among us...

The rings of a planet?

A hiding place for a wood weevil?

Natures' post-its?

Super size me?... Um.. I mean click and super size me!!!

H2O amongst the trees...

An impromptu pond had blocked our direct path.

At the time this was taken the water was not frozen...
but the moment now is.

A puddle, slight breeze and some pollen make for some beautiful patterns.

Shades of auburn...

It snowed this past weekend and the trees are pretty much bare; but just a few short weeks ago my hike brought me to the following views...

Bring on the winter. I'm ready for it.

Chance, BOB @ Gettysburg...

I strutted...

And I stood...

I strutted some more...

And I looked pretty...

I got checked over...

And I won a Best of Breed at Gettysburg! Then I got steak!

With the holiday fast approaching...

I need to send a hat tip to Two Barking Dogs who posted the below video.

Please take a look as it is informative and inoffensive.

I've had a few inquiries over the past few weeks regarding puppies around the holidays. I got my first pooch, Chris, on Christmas when I was a young child. We got him from the North Shore Animal League and he was a great friend that I'll never forget.

Please think a purchase or adoption through before making a snap judgment. You are not buying a car or a toaster. A dog is a lot of work and they grow up; they get big; they need training and patience... BUT they will give you the most love and affection they can muster until their dying day.

It is very upsetting to recall how often I hear firsthand about people that buy or adopt puppies that end up going back to a shelter. A pet gets attached quickly... so think about your commitment before bringing a dog or cat home.

And about pet stores... a NO-NO! No matter what they tell you... they are buying from brokers that deal with puppy mills. You may feel like you are "saving one" but think of the others that are suffering in deplorable conditions. Your purchase supports and confirms additional breedings that are not tested for genetic diseases and the betterment of the animal.

I don't want to talk until I'm blue in the face but please do your research and make an educated decision. And have a VERY HAPPY HOLIDAY!

A light powder creates havoc...

I don't get it... My daily driver is a '94 Celica and I can plow through a foot of snow without any problems. But, while we were driving home in our Tribute from Gettysburg, PA, we encountered snow... a whole quarter of an INCH... and what should have taken 4 hours became a seven hour ordeal. There was a bit of ice under that minute amount of powder.

There were trucks in ravines, pickups flipped over, multi-car collisions, torn up dividers and SLOOOOOOW moving traffic. I was a bad photographer and did not have my camera at the ready for the carnage and most was on the opposite side of the road. We couldn't get over 25 miles an hour and at one point we were debating whether we should stop at a hotel for the night.

We made it home but I wanted to share some of the ride with you. The snow followed us the entire way and the beasts are now frolicking in the backyard and getting quite messy.

Our navigator was quite diligent...

This was the worst it looked...

These dudes were MOVING out there...

Night fell...

And slow shutters clicked...

I'm home in a warm house now... and the snow continues to fall.
I'll see what morning brings.

Fenway gets scolded...

Piper knows madteeth™ but that doesn't mean that mama Dev doesn't know them as well :) And boy, can she scold her son...

Oh, yummy for my tummy...

What the?!? HOW DARE YOU!?!

I will scold you up high...

I will scold you down low...

I will scold you to the floor...

And then humiliate you some more! For I am mama and will be heard!

We went to Gettysburg on Friday and Chance won a best of breed. We also saw two of Devon's sons from her second litter. There were two ladies nearby that were appalled by her gnashing and snapping... But who are we to tell a mother how to raise her son? ;) No BC's were hurt in the process and Fenway learned some manners :)

Of spiders and fly...

This little feller moved quickly, flattened out to the ground and blended in to its surroundings quite well.

Sometimes, flies don't let you get this close. This little bugger was quite friendly.

This spider was quite small. That rope may have been a quarter inch thick.

He snuck up on me. He is quite the chameleon.

A mama sandwich...

"Did somebody say sandwich?"

No, but at the National, mama got sandwiched between two of her sons from her first litter. Chance (left) was being a bit of a bully towards his brother Dundee (right)... but mama kept the peace with a bit of "mad teeth"™ (thanks Piper) ;)

Thanksgiving...

Lord, thank you for the bounty that we received tonight. Thank you for protecting us in trying times. Thank you for family and friends that stand by your side in good times and bad. And thank you for a life worth living.
