Cheating a little today....

I've been helping my father in law install a new front door, frame, and stormdoor... before the Noreastern hits. I will have pics shortly, but as you can see its after 11:30 and we are at this for about 12 hours now. Just needed to get the post up before midnight and then I will update it.

So, this story starts a week ago when a wind caught my screen door off guard and ripped apart the door frame. With the storm coming I knew I needed to get this fixed and had to cancel plans with my buds. We were supposed to go paintballing and then to see "The World's Most Famous Unknown Band" The Good Rats and some pole dancers. But I had to miss out on both :( My father-in-law arrived around noon and we hit the Home Depot for supplies before returning to start the removal of the old frame and what turned out to be about a fourteen hour job.







New frame and saddle in place but taking longer than I thought it would.


Ten o'clock PM and we are prepping the new screen door.


Parts, parts, and more parts.


I realized at 11:30 that I better get something posted otherwise it would be the first time I missed a daily post in 45 days. But I made it! :) At around 2am Sunday my door is in place, my father-in-law is on his way home, and I am prepping pictures for all of you. We finished just before the rain started and i just have to put some minor finishing touches on the screen door.


I need some sleep now though because were hitting Grindhouse Sunday around noon. Until tomor...uhh...today...g'night.

Congrats to RC of Strange Culture... Although he did negate himself after after each of his guesses (Hey, leave that to me!) and didn't give me a chance to drop a hint ;) he did choose a push pin. I would have also accepted tack.

And my first clue would have been... Quit pushing me Jamie. I get the point. ;)
Then I would pray that she got the hint and not think I was an ass. LOL

A horse is a horse...

...of course... of course... unless that horse is... uhh... copper?







This is my favorite of the many horse statues made for a public arts program in Nassau County a few years ago. Although many were painted this one was covered with pennies. The horses were sold publicly and this one ended up on the fromt lawn of a credit union. The elements are not kind though as you can see the shellac starting to wear and lift.

So, Imus is a schmuck. We all knew this. He has said far worse things on the radio in the past. And since Howard went to satellite it seems that Jesse and Al need someone else to harass about free speech.

People say stupid things. Others say stupid things... in public. I've been known to do both. But get over it already. Mr. Sharpton needs a day job.

Anyway, I took this today on the way home and stripped out the color below the sky but left the reflection in tact.

Like it? Or hate it? And no, my lead in is not a comment on blacks, whites, or gays. Like Imus, I'm just trying to be funny for my audience.

Ford made this car right... The hum of the exhaust was a beautiful sound. When I took the side pic I had to give the driver a thumbs up. No idea why; but it just seemed right. You thought the Mustang was a machine? Check out this bad-boy.

MCF had talked about movies that brought a tear to his eye and included CLICK. I thought he was joking because the trailers and clips I had seen were so funny.

Well, after having a wonderful dinner with my wife we sat down to check it out. It starts out as typical Sandler and even references "O'doyle RULES!" from Billy Madison. And then about two-thirds of the way through it I shed a tear. A little further into it I found myself literally bawling and trying to explain myself to my wife. I challenge you to not cry while watching this film.

I don't want to spoil the movie but there is alot to be learned from it. Even if you are not a fan of Sandler I would HIGHLY recommend this movie. I might even go as far to say it is his best work to date.

Sadly, after the movie ended I bid my wife farewell so that I gould get on my 360 and play some video games. Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever learn. :(

The bridge...

Where I work, there is a "bridge" that connects our two buildings on the third floor. It has an inner walkway and an outer walkway (where smokers and cell phone users congregate). This picture of my friend was taken from the ground level and a couple of hundred feet away.

Seeds...

I took a walk behind my place of business and although I am there for forty hours (give or take a few) each week I sometimes forget what surrounds us. Along some railroad tracks is a dirt road that leads to a small wooded area behind our parking fields. Along this path I found these plants with pods on them. When they open these whispy white puffs come out and float on the breeze to their destinations.

As a child I had always seen and chased these down... making a wish if i caught one. I never realized what type of plant they were or where they came from. I was suprised to see how many puffs cape from each pod. Running my finger along the inner length of one pod caused (what seemed to be) fifty or so of these to take flight.

That's a lot of wishes... and we could use some of them about now.

Eerie Passover Sundown...

I went to my in-laws for Passover dinner. I picked up two bottles of Kosher wine for the family and a bottle of Duckwalk Merlot for the two goyem... I'm one of 'em.

Along the way I noticed that the clouds were thick enough so that you could see the sun perfectly without having to squint. The tree in front of their house was the perfect foreground for these images.

A sun like a moon... now we just need the rivers to run red and the locusts to swarm...





Funny story...
My uncle-in-law (UIL) is a carpenter (A Jewish carpenter... who would have thunk it) and a worker friend of his, who is a catholic, were discussing Christ and if he will return. The guy tells my UIL that Jesus can come at any time and may even speak to him. So my UIL states "That's why I always carry three nails in my pocket. So, if I see him, I can put him back where he belongs."

In focus...

Our "boy" was at an agility trial with my wife so I took mama to the park with a nerf in one hand and my camera in the other. You don't realize how difficult is is to take pictures and throw a ball at the same time. Usually you have one person tossing a ball perpendicular to your line of sight so that you can get the dog from the side instead of running away or towards you.

As you know, Devon is fast too... so getting the ball out and the camera focused is a feat unto itself. I would fake pump to my left to get her running, then throw right and she would circle around at full speed. She is smart, however, and won't fall for that twice in a row. A few throws right and a few left before fake pumping again... lift, focus, click, repeat...

Going to have to bring the wife or a friend along next time...

Renovating...for a looooong time...

This church on Long Island was built in 1885. It has been in a state of renovation for the past 8 years or so.

Regarding week 3
Although some guesses were on the right track...or should I say frequency... nobody narrowed it down. It works in conjunction with an Xbox 360, it is plastic, and the phone comment was getting close...

Two things today...

Yesterday I mentioned inspiration. I was inspired by a video that I had seen MCF attempt after watching a video that the Greek had created. But the two videos we had watched just weren’t FAST ENOUGH for me. I have a lead foot.

Now, without incriminating myself, I sped this film up by about 250% from its original speed; making a 20 minute drive take about 5 minutes. I’m estimating that some stretches convert to over 200mph. I hope you enjoy it... And maybe this can shed some light on a previous perilous answer. So turn the volume up and enjoy...especially the end.

Inspired...

Many things inspired me today. MCF's video through the trees, which in turn was inspired by “the greek,” got me to set up my camera for a video of the ride home. In the nervous rush to start and stop the video process in traffic I failed to realize that I inadvertently switched the dial from movie to scene and ended up with 18 blurry pictures of my dashboard. I’ll try again tomorrow...

Today I also went to a local middle school with a colleague for career day. We were there to tell the kids about our jobs and the choices we have made. While there I met a local mayor, a judge, a fireman, a makeup artist, and a claims investigator to name a few. But one man stood out to me. He was there as a guest of an orthopedic prosthetic maker.

Edward lost his leg below the knee when he was 16 and lived in Poland. He was waiting for a bus in a crowd of people but the bus driver lost control while approaching the crowd and Edward was hit and badly hurt. Although he has lost his leg he has competed in the paralympic games in 1984 and again in 1992. He is an accomplished swimmer, water skier, and volleyball player as well as other sports.

Edward also works for a company on Long Island that makes all sorts of prosthetics; from arms to legs... robotic and hardwired to the human brain. They are a tremendous help to our soldiers that lose so much to protect our freedom. The leg he wore today was made by his own hands as a tribute to our servicemen and women as well as this great country of ours.

Goin' in to town...

On occassion I may have mentioned that my friends and I "go in to town" for lunch. Goin' in to town can mean different things to different people. Some people may need to drive 20 or 30 minutes to get to town. We, however, walk a block or two. A thirty minute drive would get us pretty close to NY city.

In fact if we were to walk a half mile in any direction from our office the diversity of lo-cals would make you think we had 5 or 6 different towns within a few blocks of our central location. And the change over is sharp. Literally a million dollar home on one block and house you would probably stay away from on the next.

Built for speed...

What does my boy like to chase? Is it a ball... a tug toy... frisbee?


Nope, he likes to chase after mom!


And boy can she RUN!!!


She, however, is a ball fiend. Be it a tennis ball... football... or soccer ball... She is the "Air Jordan" of the dog world.


Chance loves to chase down mom and grab her by the scruff while she tries to get the ball to you for another toss.


And as long as you are willing to throw that ball...


She will get it for you.


Over and over and over again. Until we tell her that play time is done and it is time for a drink.


Sorry that they are blurry, but on an overcast day she is just too fast to be shooting at these slower speeds. I'll get more as the weekends become sunnier.

Target is full of 'em...

I had a series of eight pictures of the dogs from this afternoon but after doing a double take in the local Target I had to put this one up right away.
