Archangel: Valley of the Shadow

I have to admit that I have fallen behind in listening to Scott Roche's podcast. He's a ways into the story and I have only found the time to get through two episodes. But when listening I get hooked!

I'm really going to try and catch up a bit this weekend. And although Rey made an awesome design for Scott I wanted to pay a little tribute myself.

This week Scott released EPISODE 13! So here is a little something from b13...

You can check out his episodic links HERE or listen through iTunes. Click the above image to be taken to the Official Archangel blog.

Rocky has been rescued...

This baby had fallen from its nest at a fellow employee's home. After surviving the night we researched a squirrel sanctuary that took in the baby in.

He was quite lively and, from the looks of it, only a few days old.

I noticed something in its mouth that looked like sawdust and the baby kept bringing its paws up to its mouth to try and clear it out. The woman at the sanctuary confirmed that they were baby maggots and would clean the mouth out right away.

The tail of the mother can be seen from the ground but we are not certain if she is alive. My friend will check tonight and if the mother is deceased they will need to save any remaining babies from the nest.

UPDATE: Mama is alive and is probably taking care of the other young-uns. She may have pushed the baby we saved out for a reason... or was just to exhausted to know or care. If I get updates I'll keep you informed.

Painted...

A few months ago I featured a horse statue covered in pennies. It was one of many different ones that an artist was commissioned to create a few years ago. They were purchased by different buyers and can be found around the Island.

This one is in Garden City and has different Garden City traits and sights painted on it.

Vino...

I was driving through Sayville, on the South Shore of Long Island, and while passing the Meadow Croft estate (one of the major Long Island homesteads of the famous Roosevelt family) I saw a sign inviting me to a tasting.

Although I have been to this estate before I had not realized that a dirt road behind the main house led to a vineyard. Loughlin Vineyard to be precise.

There were a few chairs and tables next to a small wooden cabin where some people were enjoying the shady breeze and a glass of vino. I was greeted inside by an elderly man that has owned the vineyard for quite some years.

He set up some shot sized cups and poured each of their four wines (Blush, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot) which I separated with some crackers. There were prices for additional purchases by the glass or half glass and I was offered a free half glass of my choice to enjoy by the rows of grapes.

I decided to purchase a bottle of the Merlot and relaxed in the shade with my glass while the alcohol warmed my blood. I have to do this more often....

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT... but, Here is What Is It Friday? #75

MCF does his best Clark Kent™ and finds a very rare phone booth!

The fine print: On Fridays I will post an image in hopes that visitors will leave a guess in the comment section. The following Friday (or when someone guesses correctly) I will post a wide shot of the item. Each Friday a NEW image, along with a link to the previous weeks post, will be posted.

Found...

After one of my outings, and a long hike, I went back to my car. Something sparkled in the driver's seat and caught my eye. I picked it up and rolled it around between my thumb and index finger. I wasn't sure what it was, or how it got there, but I wanted to take pictures so I could see it up close.

I took the little clear sphere home and placed it on a printed piece of
junk mail. I then placed a quarter next to it to show how small this thing
actually is.

It isn't quite perfect... shows a few scars and fissures... but it captured the sunlight "just right." Maybe it is perfect in it's own special way. Be sure to click both of these images to see the desktop sized images.

I could not bring myself to part with this little treasure and it now sits cushioned in a small jewelery box. Maybe I'll revisit it again with my camera from a different angle.

Feeding time...

This post will work with both Carmi's Animal Theme and Camera Critters!

Papa returns with a belly full-o-worms...

He braces himself against his house and digs deep for a feeding...

Babies scream, "NOOOO, COME BAAAACK!"

"I WAHNTZ FOOOOOOOODS!"

"YAY! He comes back!"

Papa blurts, "No, not the foot. NOT THE FOOT!"

"Gently now... if I touch the sides the buzzer sounds."

"And away we go! A papa's job is never done!"

Something more...

This busy little buzzer was hard at work.

But something seemed amiss...

This warrior needed a weapon a little tougher than it's stinger. That stalk shall be no match for him!

Drained...

Light... leading to darkness... leading to light... Project Black

That about sums up my weekend. It was hot... I was tired... and it went by WAY too quickly.

Something else that is round...

I couldn't sleep last night... so I figured I would share my night sky with you. 2AM.

Space... the ultimate Project Black

Yes, I are...

I looked off the path I was walking on and through the trees...
a little ways off... I saw this pin attached to a branch.

So, yes it was! And I hope so!

A bit tart... but tasty...

After seeing the curled up ferns I came across these wild raspberries. Yes, I tasted them. Yes, I am still alive. Yes, I wish they were ripe.

Afraid 2 unfurl...

I took a walk through Belmont Lake State Park and came across two of these ferns at different locations. I couldn't bring myself to unfurl them for fear of some creature leaping on my face and implanting a larva into my chest to later hatch into a man eating creature... I think I watch too many movies.

Has anyone else seen anything like this or know what might have been in there?

Seventeen year brood...

These little critters stay underground for many years and then all emerge together.

They molt and leave their shell behind. They take some time to unfurl their wings and let them dry so that they can fly away in search of mate for the next seventeen year brood.

Be sure to click these next two for desktop sized images.

I think this is my favorite of the bunch.

New school, meet old school...

This was taken with a D80 looking through a Spartus Full-vue twin lens reflex camera. I'll have to try again with less glare on the Spartus view-finder.

And although not planned... this works with Anna's PROJECT BLACK.

Mantis baby... Camera Critters...

These summer nights bring all sorts of wildlife to my front door... there has been a cacophony of different insects visiting.

When I first approached, I thought it was a freaky looking male mosquito.

Upon closer inspection I saw the pincers and noticed a molted shell nearby.

Here is a desktop sized head to look at what you are doing on your computer.
