WIIF? #28

'chele didn't strain to guess last weeks "WIIF?" correctly.

Here is What Is It Friday? #28

MCF flies off on a tangent but didn't realize his cape was covering the answer all along. I liked this pic so muchthat if you click the below pic it will be super-sized for your desktop. Oh, and the above little piece is just top left of center.

The fine print: On Fridays I will post an image in hopes that visitors will leave a guess in the comment section. The following Friday (or when someone guesses correctly) I will post a wide shot of the item. Each Friday a NEW image, along with a link to the previous weeks post, will be posted.

Smaller and smaller and smaller...

FAITH NO MORE
Angel Dust

...I'll keep coming back
Smaller and smaller and smaller
Squash me
Smaller and smaller and smaller
Under the charity
Smaller and smaller and smaller
Under the topsoil
Smaller and Smaller and smaller
Under the fingernail
Smaller and smaller and smaller

Then the small becomes all becomes all......

Or is it bigger and bigger and bigger?...

WIIF? #27

'chele guessed last weeks "WIIF?"... Who will know this one? Happy guessing!

Here is What Is It Friday? #27

'chele goes two for two :D Watch the gap people! You would think people were a bit smarter than to step into a gapimg space between a train and a platform!

If I didn't know any better and saw this sig I just might think "Don't sit on the chair with the invisible legs or the train might just take one of yours when it comes through!"

The fine print: On Fridays I will post an image in hopes that visitors will leave a guess in the comment section. The following Friday (or when someone guesses correctly) I will post a wide shot of the item. Each Friday a NEW image, along with a link to the previous weeks post, will be posted.

Pepper... the trilogy!

Back in June my cube-neighbor brought in a pepper plant. With some help from y'all I pollinated the flowers and peppers formed. Most of the peppers fell off when they were small... I think because the plant was in a small pot and didn't have enough nutrients.

However, one flourished. It didn't get big... but it got RED! I picked it and hoped it would be spicy but to my surprise it was rather sweet. Below you will see what I did with it :)

Also, I transplanted it into a bigger pot and put frsh topsoil. Now there are a multitude of new blooms forming so maybe we will have a nice size crop. I saved the seeds from this little guy and will try to get some new sprouts at home. There's nothing quite like fresh fruits and veggies.

And I have to admit... it was very tasty!

Waders in the water...

I used to fish with my pop, and sometimes my brother, but haven't in a long while. I saw these fellows trying to catch diner off of the South shore of Long Island. They had nothing more than a chicken leg tied to a string and a net.

I don't know if I could bring myself to trust the fish we would catch so close to the shore. There are so many recreational crafts in the water with fuel and oil that the quality of the fish could not be too good. I'll stick with the "fish market" for now and maybe go to Tai Show for some sushi and saké.

When the day is done...

And the sun goes down
And the moonlights shining through...
—Meatloaf, Bat Out of Hell

Had some fun with a 10 second shutter and a dimly lit backyard. I feel like Mr. Smith!

Seashell... violence or defense?

I'm amazed at how my brain works sometimes... I go off on tangents.

I was thinking of a snappy title for this post; then I got to thinking of how things in nature often have a violent, aggressive look to them. A snail grew this shell as a defensive shield. A hermit crab may have taken up residency at one time also for defense. Ancient humans may have found larger versions to use as jewelery or weapons. Getting hit by one of these would hurt! Heck... stepping on one would hurt.

I then thought about other creatures like lampreys and hotostomias guernei. I guess if you lived in the dark with intense cold and pressure you would look like that too.

Then you get into parasites. I won't post a nasty link for you, but do a google image serch if you dare. Nature can be demented at times.

Tangent again... anomalies. Extra limbs, abnormal growths, brundlefly... ok, that's pushing the science fiction envelope a bit. Which brings me to Tom Cruise... (joking)

On to the desktop image...

Blooms or booms?
I think this is Queen Anne's Lace... but I could be wrong.

Southshore golf...

I don't play golf... well I play the "mini" kind... but oh how my dogs would love to run on the green and leap into that water.
Enjoy the desktop sized image!

Four flowers...

Beautiful blooms for your desktops :) I think these are tiger lilies. Enjoy :)

Night-time rose...

Took a few long exposure shots this evening. This rose with a splash of water turned out to be a nice desktop image. A few other interesting shots will be posted ina week or so. This coming Saturday will start another week of desktop images. I hope you enjoy what I have found for you all. :)

Original with spotlight shining from top left. Eight second shutter at f4.5.

Photoshop adjustment to color and saturation.

Which strikes your fancy and why?

Also... no one has guessed this past weeks WIIF? but there are some hints in the comment section that might help some of you visitors out. Let's see if someone can get it before tomorrows post.

From many, we are one...

This tree was interesting in that it looks like a few saplings once grew in the same area only to merge into one giant tree.

I wonder how old this(these) massive tree(s) is(are)...

WOW!!!

We had a BBQ at our office today that was grand. Good food, good, games, and great people. Although I did not win anything from the raffle I found out later that I did indeed win an award from a very kind blogger.

Thank you Junie for the very kind words! And thank you Christy Z. for starting such a wonderful award series. Be sure to check Christy Z.'s blog to keep these awards spreading :)

Junie says: "This is one of my more recent 'finds' in the blogging world. B13 is a full of fun blogger ,does great photography, and loves dogs and nature! It's always entertaining to visit this site." -kind words indeed :)

Picking 5 is tough so I will have a bit of honorable mentions at the end. I visit all of my "approved blogs" daily.

1. Creative Blogger Award: A tie: Skull-A-Day and Daily Monster (I love the messenger bag!) speak for themselves. But I always look forward to what they will create next. True artists in all that they do.

2. Inspirational Blogger Award: Fotografia Digital El Salvador always has images of beauty. The moment is always perfectly captured through this bloggers lens and crosses the language barrier.

3. Courageous Blogger Award: Although he uses a secret identity, MCF tells tales of his daily life and interactivity with family and friends. His blog is geeky, intelligent, fun, educational, and artistic. He got me into blogging and I've been hooked since reading his daily postings.

4. Thoughtful Blogger Award: Carmi has traveled the world and shared his travels with us. I have always seen his blog end with "Your turn" and he wants to hear from his readers. His discussions are both insightful and educational. Read his profile. We should all be more like him.

5. Charity Blogger Award: Why write something when someone else says it so well?
Denise Flaim "...a Newsday staffer since 1994, covers companion animals – not pets -- every Monday in her Animal House column. Denise is owned by two Rhodesian Ridgebacks, and is involved in breeding, conformation (code for "dog shows"), lure-coursing (don’t worry, no one else knows what that is, either), obedience, agility and therapy-dog work. She is the historian of the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of the United States, and author of "The Holistic Dog Book: Canine Care for the 21st Century" (Wiley, 2003) and "Getting Lucky: How One Special Dog Found Love and a Second Chance at Angel’s Gate" (Stewart, Tabori and Chang, 2005)." I love both her column and her blog. She has helped get much needed information to the public regarding all news that relates to our greatest companions.

Honorable mentions go to:
Junie's Place: Without her none of this could be possible ;)
Bulletproof Bracelets: Always a conversation starter :)
Jamie Dawn's Mindless Blather Living the redneck life :)
Sempliciscatti: More wonderful photos :)
Restless Photography: Even more wonderful photos :)
South Con: Great posts each and every day... or so ;)
Swimming in Champaign: Raunchy and comical. The best of both worlds.

Keep it up everyone!
