I had Van Halen on the brain after shooting this.

What's on your hard drive?...
It may not look like one to you, but this is a hard drive... actually the inside of a hard drive. This one obviously isn't working anymore... but I like the artistry of circuit boards and tech "thingies" so I took it apart and it now acts as a sculpture on my desk at work. The platters of a hard drive have a mirror finish and this one was reflecting the plants on my windowsill. I focused on the plants reflected in the platter and the drive itself became out of focus. I liked the results :)
Funny story... One of our old IT people saw this on my desk and asked "What's that?" So I replied that "the new G5 was making some grinding noise... so I popped open the shell and yanked this out. Been quiet ever since." Her look of fright was priceless :)

Easter view at 3 times of day...
Went to the city for a fantastic family gathering and Easter dinner. From my sister's apartment I had a great view of the Chrysler building and caught some glimpses throughout the day.

Deer, oh dear...
And now some wild life.
Unlike that silly bird...
I look right...
And I look left...
Just so I can be sure the coast is clear!
Oh, how embarrassing!
And a Happy Easter to all that believe.

A beam of light to guide you...
The original Fire Island lighthouse was completed in 1826. The octagonal structure was built using Connecticut River bluestone and had cost the Federal government $10,000. Although the light stood 89 feet above sea level and its beacon could be seen 14.5 miles out to sea, shipwrecks continued to occur.
A newly created U.S. Life-House Board had a plan that would upgrade the system of lighthouses and lifesaving stations on Long Island. The replacement was twice as tall and the light was visible from more than twenty miles out to sea.
The first lighthouse was taken down after the present (1858) structure was in service. The stones of the first lighthouse were used on the upper terrace of the new lighthouse.
During the 1890s, the base (first image) was lined with bricks and a roof was added so it could store water for an adjacent powerhouse. The remaining stones mark the former western tip of Fire Island in the 1820s.

Fly away home...
Be sure to click all the below images.
I was driving along Ocean Parkway when this flock took off and swarmed my car before landing again along the road. I really thought I would hit a bird or two but they all swooped up and over my windshield, missing it by inches. It was the most surreal thing I have ever seen.
I had to find a place to park and walk along the median until I came across them again. I was able to get quite close before they would scatter; only to land again 30 to 40 feet away.
I took a few shots and then a passing parks officer gave me a look that told me I needed to move on.
All are desktop sized. So click to open biiger and then save em'.

6 months...
We just came back from dropping off the last pup from the litter with his new potential owners. We are very picky when it comes to who gets our dogs but we want them to be in the best homes we can find and to be in them for the long haul.
We met up with the new owners at a friends house and she brought out a Chin pup for Puzzle to eat... er... I mean meet!
Everyone was lining up to see the little puppy. Oh, and that's Puzzle's new big brother sniffing his butt.
The chin pup is recovering from a scratched retina but is doing fine. Poor little puppy.
I have a feeling they will be two peas in a pod before long...
Ella is the girl we kept from this litter. Isn't she precious?
We gave her a bath today.
She will miss her final litter mate but she still has her mama, older brother and uncle Schip to play with.

WIIF #56
Sandgroper was close, but blondkit10 downed last weeks "WIIF?".

Carletta cleared the smoke this week! It is a test button for a smoke alarm. It is not an LED but there is one behind it which illuminates when the alarm sounds or the battery is dying.

Did you know it is officially "Click a new link day"?
Well, not really, but why not?
Click some of the links in my blogroll and visit a site that you may not have in the past. They are all there for a reason :)
