Next week is a big one, so don't forget to read THIS POST!
Once again, last week brought two more WIIF?s and good guesses by Junie, BeccaDink, and a finalization from MCF!
Without further ado...
and with apologies for the picture quality...
Here is What Is It Friday? #49
BeccaDink zipped this weeks "WIIF?" to a close. Tune in on Friday for the big 50th!
The fine print: On Fridays I will post an image in hopes that visitors will leave a guess in the comment section. The following Friday (or when someone guesses correctly) I will post a wide shot of the item. Each Friday a NEW image, along with a link to the previous weeks post, will be posted.

One of the Cloverfield monster's eyelashes.
That thing had eyelashes?!?!?!
Some sort of a plastic spool. Can't decide which one, 'cause we know how many spools there are out there,
Hmmmm.....looks like a closeup of some wire maybe?
Not a spool... and no wire was harmed, or used, in the making of this photo.
Hair wrapped around a curling iron?
Cross section of a booger?
Eeewwww...to both... and no... to both.
A knitting needle with yarn wrapped around it?
I probably would have guessed that too... but I would have been wrong.
shower curtain rod?
a weight bar?
Way too long and way too heavy.
A sewing machine bobbin with thread?
Nope, but thread did play a part in the production of this.
All I can come up with, lamely, is that there is some sort of braided thread wrapped around a spindle, which I am guessing--from the highlights-- is metallic.
So... what is it? Part of a fishing reel with dacron line? An old fashioned spinning top? Some fiber optic cable or Monster audio cable wound around a spool?
Frankly, I'm stumped!
spindle: nope
metallic: nope (although sometimes it may be)
So... what is it? You have 6 more days to figure that out ;)
Part of a fishing reel with dacron line? Nope

Frankly, I'm stumped!
It appears so!
Saturday night hint: a similar invention was patented in the United States 20 years earlier, in 1851
A sort of pulley?
nope
Hmm....part of an antique light bulb filament?
nope, nothing electrical about this.
ARGHHHHHHH!!!!
I'm going back to the sewing machine theory. A close up of some part of a Singer?
Even though my mother owns an OLD Singer, this is not part of a sewing machine. However, one may have been used in the production of this.
Part of a chair?
I'm stumpted!!! And google is not helping me out with patents in 1851 let me tell you!!!
Not a part of a chair... too small for that.
These once promoted self-reliance in young children
Well - the zipper was patented in 1851, and promoted self reliance in kids (thanks google) however the picture does not look like a zipper to me.
I tried Googling the patent searches, too. Zippers and Colt 45's came up and neither looks anything like that photo.
Hmmm. Sewing machines produced whatever it is. Could it be part of a loom or weaving machine?
Becca got it first! a zipper it is!
A zipper?? Surprise!! I'm glad someone got this one. It was a far cry from my shower curtain rod! LOL
